A grid-connected solar system is a great way to do your part for the environment. Generating power on your roof will make you far more conscious of the power you are using, which can help remind you to turn off that extra light. Not to mention that producing your own power will reduce your electricity bill!
The Xantrex GT inverter is capable of feeding power back to the utility grid. The GT includes some great monitoring software and an easy way to interface the computer with the inverter, so that you can view and manipulate the power production data. This inverter carries a five (5) year warranty.
These systems are fairly new in Canada and you will have to get in touch with your local utility to find out if they will allow you to interconnect and what they would like to see in the way of protection and approvals.
Please Note: For safety reasons these systems willl not power your house in the case of a utility grid failure. In order to create a safe environment for workers to work on your power lines, the inverter cannot feed power to the utility grid during a power outage. It is important to note that this system does not include any batteries nor can batteries be added to the system later. |
